"I see clothing as a surface, not just a garment," says Jessica Heuse, Founder of Theory of Ours which launched in November 2025. The brand is built around the idea that what we wear can carry meaning. Material, form, and placement are treated as tools to communicate something beyond just basic function. Each piece begins with the meaning and message, then moves through fabric, weight, and construction, arriving at a final form that feels considered.
Theory of Ours is rooted in the study of everyday clothing. Foundational pieces are reworked through a lens of intention. Garments are treated as canvases, where artwork, text, and process are integrated rather than simply applied. The result is a wardrobe that feels familiar but holds something more, because what we wear should mean something.
The process behind Theory of Ours is deliberate and iterative. Each garment moves through multiple stages of refinement, where proportion, weight, artwork systems and construction are tested until the balance feels perfect.
Art and process sit at the center of the work. References come from drawing, writing, and observation, often captured as fragments rather than fixed compositions. These elements are translated onto garments through print, embroidery, and texture, becoming part of the surface rather than sitting on top. There is an ongoing interest in contrast between soft and rigid, clean and imperfect, controlled and instinctive, which informs both the visual language and the physical construction.
The result is a modular wardrobe built on clarity and intention. The aim is to create clothing that feels grounded but expressive, where each piece carries its own presence within the whole.
